Dissanayake was referring to charges filed by the FCID that Basil had spent Rs. 36.5 million of the Department’s capital money to buy GI pipes to display banners and flags of Mahinda Rajapaksa during the last presidential polls.

He said he saw nothing wrong in buying GI pipes for use by Pradeshiya Sabhas.

The use of the same for election propaganda work before handover to the PS was not a violation of election laws, he was quoted by BBC Sandeshaya as saying.
