Speaking at an event yesterday (02), the minister said that police OICs are not being appointed according to the whims of MPs in the present day.
"Certain individuals attempt to draw advantage from the police by flaunting their political contacts. This is not done. The police is there to serve the public. That cannot be an issue for MPs or anyone else. We are working towards this providing the necessary technology and training," the minister said.
The minister further urged the police force to conduct themselves as straightforward officers striving to serve the public.
Speaking, the secretary of the Law and Order ministry - Jagath P. Wijeweera said that the police force should be more courteous towards the public in order to be an institution providing public service.
