Accordingly, bus fares of both private and SLTB buses will be increased by six percent approved by the Cabinet following a report on the annual bus fare increase submitted by Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva.

The minimum bus fare will also be increased from Rs. 8 to Rs. 9. A report prepared by an expert committee has taken into account views expressed by all stakeholders including bus association representatives,a Transport Ministry Spokesman said.

He said that stern action will be taken against bus operators if they charge above the approved fares.

Under the bus fare revision, Expressway bus fares will also be increased from today.

The revised bus fare from Maharagama to Galle is Rs.390, while the bus fare from Maharagama to Matara will be Rs. 470.

The revised bus fare from Kaduwela to Matara is.Rs 490.
