Ganesan is the leader of the Democratic People's Front (DPF) and the minister for National Co-existence, Dialogue and Official Languages.

Digambaram is the current minister of Upcountry New Villages, Estate Infrastructure & Community Development.

Sources say this would mean that Ganesan and Digambaram would secure the UNP leadership among the Tamil masses in Colombo and estate areas respectively.
