Two ships bought by the Ceylon Shipping Corporation for Rs. 9,100 million (70 million US dollars) is facing ruin as they are not being used for any productive purpose.

Named Ceylon Breeze and Ceylon Princess, the two ships were intended to transport coal to the power plants at Norochcholai and the proposed one at Sampur.

Cranes have been installed in the two ships at a cost of 456,310 USD for loading and unloading coal.

The two ships had been bought on a credit facility from the People’s Bank, for which the semi-annual repayment made so far is Rs. 356 million.
