The party wants the system changed in view of the opposition to it.
The suggestion came at a meeting minister Ravi Karunanayake had at colleague Anura Priyadarshana Yapa’s office on July 12.
However, the meeting took a heated turn from the outset after Karunanayake said the VAT amendment could not be changed to the whims of everybody.
When asked, he said the state would earn additional revenue of Rs. 10 billion through the latest amendment.
They asked him not to make enemies of the businesses and the public for Rs. 10 billion, and urged him to turn to another method to find the money.
However, Karunanayake refused to listen to them, and the SLFP MPs have decided to take the matter to the president.
