JVP wants laws to challenge false beliefs

JVP wants laws to challenge false beliefs Featured

JVP’s Bimal Ratnayake has called for the setting up of a separate unit based on science to deal with false beliefs in society.

He was speaking in parliament during the debate on the draft for a national research council.

Laws should be introduced to make those who claim supernatural powers to show their so-called abilities before a research council, he said.

Ratnayake said two leading men claiming to have supernatural powers have come to the JVP office and requested their leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake to save them.

He accused the electronic media of spreading mythology in society, but not allocating even 30 minutes of their time to challenge such beliefs.
