It will then be presented to Parliament for approval, he said, adding, “By early next year, the architecture of special accountability courts will be ready for discussion.”
If there are offenders, they should be punished for the common good of the country, he noted.
However, the government has given no promise to the international community to punish anyone, Samaraweera stressed.
He went onto say the international community has commended the steps taken towards reconciliation, also going by the response he had received at the Geneva UNHRC sessions.
No clash between president-PM
Speaking further, the minister refuted claims by certain media about various clashes between the president and the prime minister.
The two leaders are strongly bonded in comradeship to face the nation’s challenges, he said, noting that the two key political parties were working together for the first time.
Democracy should be restored to prevent a recurrence of family dictatorship, while on the other hand national reconciliation is also a priority, he added.
