Tobacco companies tailing 'Aadaraneeya Kathawak'? Featured

The 'Aadaraneeya Kathawak' film directed by Priyantha Colombage is in hot water over several scenes in the film, reports say.

The National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol has informed the judiciary through the police that several scenes of the film violate the National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol Act.

Accordingly, the courts have ordered Colombage to provide copies of the film to the police for an investigation.

However, upon inquiring on this from Mr. Colombage, 'Sri Lanka Mirror' learns that the Censor Board has provided the film a U/A (Unlimited Access) certification for the film and therefore it cannot be banned from screening.

Noting that the film also portrays the harmful effects of consuming Tobacco and Alcohol to the youth, Colombage added that a Tobacco company opposing this is suspected to be behind this scheme.

Also, he said that he is unable to provide DVD copies to the police as ordered as it is not possible to obtain DVD copies until the film's screening is over.

He added that he has mentioned this while giving a statement to the Narahenpita police. Afterwards the police had approached the National Film Corporation but they too did not have DVD copies of the film.
