COPE report to CB finance board!

COPE report to CB finance board! Featured

As the dispute over the Central Bank governor position threatens the government, the auditor general’s report into the matter is to be submitted to the bank’s finance board, say government sources.

Arjun Mahendran is making attempts to portray the report, requested by COPE, as a false one, lankatruth.com website reports.

However, at a function in Colombo yesterday (30), prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said any wrongdoing by Mahendran was yet to be proven.

Mahendran’s term ended yesterday, but he has not been given an extension, or a new governor appointed.

Convener of the National Movement for a Just Society Prof. Sarath Wijesuriya said they had been told by the president that a new governor would be appointed within the next 24 hours from yesterday afternoon.

The CB governor position remained vacant for five days until Mahendran arrived from Singapore to take up the position, after Ajith Nivard Cabraal resigned soon after the new government took office on January 08 last year.
