The COPE has instructed the AG to investigate the allegations over the matter and report back.
Extending Mahendran’s term or not will hinge on a COPE report that is to be tabled in parliament before June 30.
There had been charges the CB has not submitted the information relating to the bond issue as requested, with the bank insisting the AG should come through the attorney general to get the details.
Later, the bank agreed to make the information available, which has been done now.
During a recent meeting the president and the prime minister had with civil society organizations, it was stressed an inquiry was needed against the CB governor.
Agreement has been reached there that there would be be no other inquiries if the COPE submits its report without delay.
Meanwhile, the PM yesterday summoned the AG to Temple Trees and questioned him about the publicizing of his report into the last budget.
Nothing was discussed at the meeting about Mahendran, reports say.
A report that is to be submitted by the auditor general into the Central Bank bond issue will have a decisive effect on a service extension for CB governor Arjun Mahendran, say political sources.
