He was one of two death-row prisoners sent to the gallows after the Pakistan government reintroduced capital punishment.
Their executions came after the Taliban terrorist attack on a school in the Pakistani city of Peshawar early this week in which 148 were killed most of them children.
The names of the two men put to death were given as Akil Ahamed and Irshad Mehmood.
Ahmed was said to be the driving force behind the attack on the Sri Lanka team bus. He once served in the Pakistan army.
In 2003 he was accused of plotting to kill former Pakistan President Pervez Musharaff.
In 2009 Ahmed was also implicated in the terrorist attack on the Pakistani army headquarters in Rawalpindi.
