Speaking at an awareness creating event in Kurunegala recently, she said, "according to research data of the Child Protection Authority, we learn that if15% of girls are sexually abused, 20% of boys face the same fate."

She also warned that sexual abuse would affect a child physically as well as psychologically regardless of the gender and urged to report any such incidents to authorities immediately.
