Port carpentry workshop makes furniture for personal use

Port carpentry workshop makes furniture for personal use Featured

Acting on a tip off by the workers, port trade unions have raided the Ports Authority’s carpentry workshop at Slave Island and found furniture being made without approval.

The workers have charged that the furniture was being made for the personal use of subject minister Arjuna Ranatunga and his brother, Ports Authority chairman Dhammika Ranatunga.

According to the procedure, proper approval should be obtained and the order made to the carpentry workshop through the chief engineer.

None of these steps have been followed for these almirahs, beds and tables with mirrors worth millions of rupees.
