PNB takes credit for heroin haul, officers who gave tip-off ignored Featured

The police officers who had tipped-off the Police Narcotics Bureau about the haul of heroin seized from an Iranian ship recently have been ignored, while members of the PNB raiding party are to be given promotions and a cash prize.

Police department sources said the tip-off was given by Nawagamuwa police OIC Manjula Silva on information given him by a sergeant of Ilavalai police.

Based on this, the PNB raided the ship and found 101 kilos of heroin.

When recommending the officers, the PNB has suggested a Rs. 50,000 cash prize for the Nawagamuwa OIC and the Ilavalai police sergeant.

However, the PNB director, OIC Rangajeewa and other officers have been recommended with promotions as well as a Rs. 500,000 cash prize.
