Their commitment during the period president Maithripala Sirisena was the health minister in the previous regime was commendable and unforgettable, says the minister.
Insulting the doctors should be unreservedly condemned, he says, adding that the government pays its tribute to the GMOA for their commitment, although there were certain shortcomings on their part.
Any dispute arising with doctors should be resolved through discussion, he says.
The big commitment made by doctors as professionals to form the present government should not be forgotten, says Rajapakse.
Complaint against Chatura Senaratne
Meanwhile, secretary of the GMOA Dr. Nalinda Herath says they will complain to the speaker against MP Chatura Senaratne, son of health minister Rajitha Senaratne, for having made seriously insulting remarks against doctors.
The central committee of the GMOA met yesterday (02) and decided to take action against MP Senaratne, he says.
Had the health ministry been flexible from the beginning, the issue with regard to the appointment of interns could have avoided the unpleasant incident that had ensued, he points out.
Appropriate action will be taken if anyone interferes in this matter again, Dr. Herath warns.
