Speaking to 'Sri Lanka Mirror', Mr. Gamage said that two unidentified assailants in full-face helmets and jackets had assaulted him when he was going to climb into his car after attending a meeting at the Negombo Municipal Council premises.

He added that by the assailants' attire, it was obvious that this was a planned attack.

The assailants have fled on a motorbike.

Mr. Gamage is currently receiving medical treatment from the Negombo Base Hospital.
