A deep suspicion has arisen in a backdrop of military personnel being used for political activities to secure support for the government at the Presidential election, Executive Director of Campaign for Free & Fair Elections (CaFFE) - Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon says.

He was responding to 'BBC Sandeshaya' with regard to information received by CaFFE over two government ministers and several provincial politicians holding a political meeting at an Army camp in Vavuniya.

Speaking further, the CaFFE Executive Director said that military officers have held political meetings in several provinces.

In addition, several military contingents have been placed in different areas of the island to secure support for the government with some of them even located at places of religious worship.

Noting that CaFFE has informed the Elections Commissioner on this regard, Tennakoon has said that the Elections Secretariat would take relevant measures.
