Secretary of the Judicial Services Commission - G.M.W.P. Jayatillake said that the magistrate was formally informed on this regard yesterday (20).
He was sent on compulsory leave due to a probe he is facing on several charges including the illegal possession of an elephant calf without a valid license.
Magistrate Gamage was noticed to appear before the CID on May 25 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court to record a statement on this regard.
Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya made this order considering a submission by the CID that Gamage failed to appear before the CID though he was asked to appear on two occasions.
The CID moved Court that notices be issued directing Gamage to appear before the CID.
It has been nearly two years since he initially faced these charges and investigations were done amid much obstructions.
The Colombo chief magistrate’s court also ordered yesterday that 15 baby elephants whose legal ownerships are embroiled in controversy be returned to their owners temporarily.
