Raigam chairman’s insurance lie

Raigam chairman’s insurance lie Featured

Janashakthi Insurance is bearing the full expenses to provide insurance cover for nominees at Raigam Tele’es, despite a claim by Raigam Group chairman Ravi Liyanage that he too, is contributing.

A total of 227 persons will be entitled to a Rs. one million life and Rs. 50,000 medical cover each, for a one year period.

Liyanage has called for bids from several insurance companies to provide insurance cover for the nominees.

Janashakthi was given priority as it is also the insurance partner for Raigam Group.

Accordingly, Janashakthi was chosen and it has given a price of nearly Rs. 650,000 for the Raigam Tele’es nominees.

Of that, 50 per cent was deducted in consideration of the publicity received by Janashakthi through the event, and Raigam was told to pay the balance due of nearly Rs. 350,000.

However, Liyanage has told Janashakthi that it should bear the full expenses, or else, he warned the insurance company that he would terminate all insurance agreements.

He told Sri Lanka Mirror recently that for the first time, nominees of such an event were being given insurance cover with a total worth of more than Rs. five million.
