Ven. Suriyawewa Bendiwewa Pemasiri Thera has said they would ensure the protection of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, even if a 100 of them had to follow the footsteps of the great Theraputthabhaya, who ceased to be a monk to join the army of King Dutugemunu.

The Thera was speaking at a media briefing in Tangalle today (16), which was organised by the Hambantota United Bhikku Society.

A large gathering of Buddhists monks at the event called to ensure the protection of Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Meanwhile, speaking at a separate event in Colombo, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has said that 08 monks were disrobing everyday in the Colombo suburban areas.
