The Ports Authority and Shipping Lines have asked the customs to remove these containers, which are blocking warehouse space at the port, according to reports reaching Sri Lanka Mirror.
Customs authorities had planned to destroy the arecanuts, but several top government ministers have objected to it.
Fazal is Agricom’s owner
Meanwhile, the identity of the owner of Agricom Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd., who had got a minister to order the release of 100 container-loads of arecanut imported by him, by paying a Rs. 100,000 fine per container, has been revealed.
By the name Fazal, he is the son-in-law of Wayamba Traders owner Thajikin, who was one of the leading importers of arecanut during the Rajapaksa regime.
Agricom has its office located at no. 02, east tower, World Trade Centre in Colombo.
