JHU proposal against federal call adopted

The western provincial council today (04) unanimously adopted a JHU-sponsored proposal against the federal call by the northern provincial council.

JHU’s Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe moved the proposal.

It was amended by Salochana Gamage and Jagath Pushpakumara with additions on opposition leader R. Sampanthan’s entry to a military camp and north chief minister C.V. Vigneswaran’s having violated the constitution.

Warnasinghe agreed to both additions, and the debate on his proposal continued from 11.00 am to 4.30 pm.

Both ruling and opposition members spoke in support of the proposal.

After the debate, JHU members sat on the floor of the chamber and staged a protest, calling for the defeat of the federal call.
