Mahinda's Army protection removed

The Army commander has ordered to remove all Army personnel deployed for the protection of Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Accordingly, 52 officers in the contingent will be removed by 2.00pm today (02) and will be replaced by four police Sub Inspectors and 46 Police Constables, reports add.

It is said that the majority of the military personnel in Rajapaksa's security contingent are commandos.

The contingent, headed by Colonel Mahendra Fernando, also provided security to the Pope Francis during his visit to Sri Lanka.
