Data webs instead of Tear Gas

Data webs instead of Tear Gas Featured

The Ministry of Defence is to take novel measures when making arrests, calling for intelligence reports and when curbing anti-government protest demonstrations, reports say.

Under the new measures, it is suggested to arrest a person only after conducting initial investigations and collecting basic evidence, rather than producing an arrested individual before courts after filing a 'B' report.

Such measures have already been implemented in many Western countries and it is said that several related Acts are to be amended soon.

It has also been proposed to provide reports of the State Intelligence Service to the Ministry of Defence first, before handing them over to the IGP. The relevant units are to be informed afterwards.

Meanwhile, a new procedure with regard to protest demonstrations have been suggested as well. Instead of dispersing protest demonstrations using tear gas, relevant government ministries and institutions are to intervene to address issues after receiving intelligence reports on such events. It has been planned to maintain 'data webs' at the Ministry of Defence for this purpose.

It is also being considered to set up a new operations unit at the ministry as well, reports further say.
