Update: Athurugiriya plane crash kills 4

At least four persons were reportedly killed after an Russian made Antanov-32 (fixed wing) aircraft of Sri Lanka Air Force crashed into a rubber estate in Athurugiriya early this morning (Dec. 12), police said.

One survivor was admitted to the General Hospital-Colombo with severe burn injuries, the police media spokesman says.

3 houses have also been damaged, reports say.

Sri Lanka Air Force said that they have lost contact with the Antanov-32 while flying from Katunayake to Ratmalana.

Civil Aviation Authority says poor visibility may have been the factor in the plane crash.

Regional reporters say that the fire brigade and police are dousing flames at the site of the crash.
