Activists exclaim their 'dismay & disgust' to Speaker

In a letter to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, a group of civil liberty activists have further exclaimed their 'dismay and disgust' over the 'ad hoc procedure' adopted by the Constitutional Council (CC) in recommending DIG Pujith Jayasundera for the post of IGP.

In the letter, 'Decent Lanka 2015' says, "We, a group of public interest and civil liberty activists, address this to you in your capacity as the (Chair of the Constitutional Council (CC). (i) to register our dismay and disgust in the ad hoc procedure adopted by the CC in recommending DIG Pujith Jayasundera for the post of lnspector General of Police (IGP) and (ii) to request for information relevant to the said recommendation..."

"We believe you as a parliamentarian who consistently stood for the citizens’ 'Right to Information' would accede to our request for all relevant information in the issue mentioned above."

Noting that they have made their stance very clear on the matter, the collective requests for the relevant information as deliberated at the CC meeting held on I8 April (2016), chaired by the Speaker.

The letter is shown below.
