The Ministerial Sub Committee has been appointed on a recommendation of the Task Force, which was formed to prevent violence against women and girls.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe appointed the Task Force on preventing violence against women and girls in May last year. The action plan prepared by the Task Force has been handed over to the Prime Minister.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s office said that tasks have been entrusted with the relevant Ministries according to the plan. A report was prepared about the problems faced by women and girls by a committee, which was appointed by the Prime Minister, when he was the Opposition Leader.
It was published in December 2014 and the report of that committee has been considered when preparing the plans of the Task Force. The Prime Minister has instructed to prepare a mechanism to implement the plan of the Task Force.
