India worried by present Lankan regime too Featured

India has expressed concern over the Sri Lankan government’s having entered into pacts with China that compromise India’s national security, according to Indian media.

New Delhi is especially wary about the agreement to resume the port city project and to handover Mattala airport and 1,000 acres of land in Hambantota for Chinese investors.

Summoning a minister close to prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Indian government leaders have told him about their concerns, alleging that just like the Rajapaksa regime, the present administration too, has deceived them.

Earlier, Sri Lanka has announced that the port city project would not threaten India’s national security.

When this project was launched during the Rajapaksa regime, Indian national security advisor Ajit Doval had asked the then defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to stop the project.

The Chinese company had been instructed to resume the project before the commencement of Wickremesinghe’s visit to Beijing.
