The TNA vehemently opposes the government’s plans to grant 818 acres from Sampur in Trincomalee for the proposed thermal power plant by India, says opposition leader R. Sampanthan.

Speaking to the media at Kopay in Jaffna, he said discussions would be held with the government to regain all land lost to the public, including at Sampur.

He accused successive governments of having acted in an authoritarian manner when taking over northeast land for state purposes, and called for an immediate halt to the practice.

Meanwhile, north chief minister C.V. Vigneswaran says he will meet president Maithripala Sirisena and prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today (18) to discuss land and other issues of the people in the province.
