'Vendors are arbitrary pricing goods'

'Vendors are arbitrary pricing goods' Featured

Consumers are grievously affected by the arbitrary pricing of goods by vendors during the festive season, says the National Movement to Protect Consumer Rights.

Although control prices have been imposed on 22 goods including 12 food necessities, the measures were disregarded by vendors who had arbitrarily decided on prices themselves, the movement's chairman - Ranjith Vidanage says.

He cites a kilo of chicken priced between Rs. 600 - Rs. 650, a kilo of rice priced between Rs. 100 - Rs. 120, a packet of salt priced between Rs. 60 - Rs. 70 and kilo of dhal priced between Rs. 220 - Rs. 240 as several examples among many.
