The Foreign Affairs Ministry has informed the Colombo district court that a court hearing against the United Nations organization cannot take place within Sri Lanka.

Patriotic National Movement’s convener Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara has filed a case against the UN, seeking an order that the UN recommendations, including the Darusman report, for an international investigation into war crimes charges are illegal.

Making written submissions, the ministry informed the court that the UN has the diplomatic immunity from being subjected to prosecution.

However, petitioner’s lawywer Kapila Gmage refused to accept the argument, noting that the UN has exceeded its powers when investigating Sri Lanka.

The petitioner sought the case be taken up in absentia of the UN.

The district court fixed December 08 for the next hearing, when it will decide whether to grant leave or not for the petition, BBC Sandeshaya reports.
