SriLankan powers Travel Bloggers Conference

Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts and Dior for the second time would host of travel bloggers in June as part of an effort by the tourism industry to promote the destination using social media.

The Cinnamon Travel Bloggers Conference (TBC Asia) will be held from 2-7 June 2016 in Sri Lanka in partnership with the Professional Travel Bloggers’ Association (PTBA) and SriLankan Airline.

Over 60 top travel and video bloggers are expected to attend the event from various parts of the world together with well-known international speakers.

“The craft of travel blogging and writing encourages others to travel more than advertisements and other forms of media,” said Krishan Balendra, president of Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts, which is hosting the event.

“The travel industry has evolved. Travel blogging is one of the most essential and undervalued components in Sri Lanka’s tourism sector - an essential tool for marketing,” he told a news conference.

Over 60 top travel and video bloggers are expected to attend the event from various parts of the world together with well-known international speakers, Balendra said.

This year’s event includes a new component - the Travel Blogger Awards.

Matt Gibson, president of the Professional Travel Bloggers Association, a non-profit organisation of some 500 travel bloggers, said their mission is to help industry and bloggers work together in more productive and more professional ways.

“We hold talks at major travel industry events to educate industry leaders how they can work with bloggers and bloggers on how best to work with industry,” he said.

Asia’s tourist industry was not yet using travel blogger trips to improve the travel industry as done in North America and Europe, he said.
