Sat Net, owned by former Director General of now defunct Media Center for National Security and  Sri Lanka Deputy High Commissioner in Australia, Lakshman Hulugalle, has commenced test broadcasting of a paid satellite television network, reports say.

Dish TV Lanka (Private) Limited is the Sri Lankan subsidiary of the Direct to Home television services operator Dish TV.

To obtain a license, Indian based Direct to Home television services operator - Dish TV had earlier partnered with Sri Lanka-based Satnet to form a joint venture called Dish TV Lanka.

However, it has been given the green light only a few months before, reports say.

Dish TV owns 70% stake in the joint venture while Satnet owns the remaining 30% stake.

Dish TV had also received board approval to invest up to one billion Indian rupees for the venture, reports add.

In India, Dish TV currently has a net subscriber base of 12.1 million as of September 2014, adding 0.38 million net subscribers in the previous quarter.
