Harry’s Lanka Bell violates customers rights – part 1

Harry’s Lanka Bell violates customers rights – part 1 Featured

Lanka Bell, whose majority shares are owned by leading businessman Harry Jayawardena, is violating telecommunication regulations, according to reports reaching Sri Lanka Mirror.

That is by giving personal information of its customers, who have defaulted bill payments, to a third party.

This has been done on the basis of a promise to give a certain percentage of the claimed money to the third party.

However, telecommunication regulations prohibit service providers from giving personal details of its customers to another party without a court order.

This has been confirmed by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission.

Lanka Bell has handed over the task of securing defaulted payments to a company called Rimacwin Management, whose address is no. 78/1, Main Street, Battaramulla.

When contacted, its general manger Fazmil said Lanka Bell has given it the permission through an agreement. (Fazmil’s audio)

An investigation by us revealed that this company too, has committed serious irregularities.

They are sending postcards, purportedly by a non-existent lawyer by the name Arambewatte, giving final warnings to Lanka Bell customers about defaulted payments (picture of one such postcard).

When we visited the postal address at Main Street, Battaramulla, we found that there are several companies under that address.

Following is the name-board of these companies.
