Lanka Bell customers pestered by postcards Featured

Lanka Bell customers are being pestered by postcards demanding alleged outstanding payments, sent by a person by the name Arambewatte, who claims to be a lawyer.

His address is given as 78/1, Main Street, Battaramulla and mobile no. as 075 9361044, with the postcards mentioning a reference number with the letters LBR.

A Lanka Bell client calling the number is told by the man named Arambewatte that there is outstanding payment due to Lanka Bell, and that the payment should be made before the deadline or the client is asked to meet him immediately.

When contacted, Lanka Bell general manager (finance), Quintus Fernando denied having sent such postcards to the customers.

He said the legal division would send letters of demand or resort to legal action to claim any outstanding payment due to them.

A female official of the legal division said the man named Arambewatte is not a lawyer.

Even if he is a lawyer, he cannot send such postcards, a top official of the Bar Association told Sri Lanka Mirror.

When SLM contacted Arambewatte, he had this to say: (audio)
