A source said that Jayasinghe reported to work in his new capacity today.

The appointment followed the suspension of the bank’s general manager, D.M.Gunasekera.

The Finance Ministry decision was made following a charge of misuse of power and corruption.

Gunasekera was appointed as the GM of the bank in January 2013 after working in the capacity of deputy general manager, in charge of retail banking and sales and channel management from October 2010 to January 2013.

Finance Ministry sources said that Gunasekera will have to go through a disciplinary hearing.
