“Presidents’ watch” on display in Sri Lanka

Rolex has created a special exhibition celebrating the new Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40, which is on display in Sri Lanka exclusively at Chatham Luxury from 21 to 28 September 2016.

The Oyster Perpetual Day-Date, Rolex’s most prestigious model, is known as the “presidents’ watch” thanks to the heads of state and other eminent figures who have worn it over the years.

From when it was launched in 1956, the Day-Date represented the pinnacle of watchmaking at the time, with, for example, the calendar function that indicated the day of the week spelled out in full in a window on the dial in addition to the date. The new generation was unveiled in 2015.

Visitors to the exhibition are invited to discover the history and technology behind the Day-Date, presented on five panels whose configuration is inspired by the model’s iconic President bracelet. In addition to 3D, interactive videos, archive photographs and an exploded view of a movement, several of the new collection’s models will be on display.

The latest Day-Date features a modernized design with a 40 mm case and a new- generation mechanical movement, calibre 3255, which sets a new standard for chronometric performance. It redefines the significance of Superlative Chronometer, established by Rolex in the late 1950s, a particularly emblematic attribute for a watch that is considered a symbol of excellence and prestige.

Calibre 3255 is a powerful example of the most advanced watchmaking technology. Backed by 14 patents, this innovative movement offers fundamental gains in terms of precision, power reserve, resistance to shocks and magnetism, ease of use, and reliability. It incorporates the new Chronergy escapement patented by Rolex, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability.

The new Day-Date is available exclusively in 950 platinum or in 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold, with a variety of elaborate new dials, veritable signatures of its renewal.
