The Economic Council has decided to merge six state banks to form three separate banks, reports say.

Accordingly, the State Mortgage and Investment Bank will be merged with the Sri Lanka Housing Development Finance Corporation.

Also, merges will join together Lankaputra Development Bank and Regional Development Bank, and Divineguma Bank and Sri Lanka Savings Bank.
