DFCC Bank rolls out 'Vardhana Virtual Wallet'

Sri Lanka’s DFCC Bank yesterday (14) launched its latest mobile innovation - the Vardhana Virtual Wallet.

The mobile app was launched as another financial enabler by the bank, which earmarked the innovation as the first in the country's banking industry.

Speaking at the event, Arjun Fernando - CEO of DFCC Bank PLC said the main aim of this was to attract the unbanked customers to the banking sector.

He added that the bank's customer base is around 300,000 to 400,000 and around a 100 merchants have already registered with the system.

Fully owned and operated by the DFCC Bank PLC, the mobile app enables users to simplify the way they transact and stay in control of their finances.

The app is developed by Synapsys, a subsidiary of DFCC Bank PLC that provides Consulting, Software and IT services to the financial services industry.

Offering a green 'paperless' mode of transaction to its customers, the Vardhana Virtual Wallet system is secured by SSL. Transactions are only possible after generating a login system. The system is enabled with an automated logout function after a period of inactivity while simultaneous logins are not allowed.

The Vardhana Virtual Wallet can also be used to purchase goods and services, pay utility bills and to transfer funds to other users.

To register for a personal Vardhana Virtual Wallet. applicants need to open a Personal account at DFCC and submit a duly completed Vardhana Wallet mandate. Thereafter, the mobile app can be downloaded from the Apple Store for Apple users or from the Google Play Store for Android device users. After activating the wallet. Users simply have to enter their credentials and commence using its services. Merchants who want to register can follow the same process. Additionally, they will have the freedom to choose how they transact ; as they may operate off a mobile device, through a PC and/or have the Vardhana Virtual Wale System integrated into their transaction processing system.
