Basil’s party to field ex-soldiers at LG polls? Featured

The anti-government national front to be formed by the joint opposition has decided to field popular retired military officers at the upcoming local government polls.

Ex-minister Basil Rajapaksa is working to select such officers, who had fought in the war.

However, recently retired Maj. Gen. Kamal Gunaratne has firmly rejected a request to contest the election.

Gunaratne has said that he was a mature soldier, and that he would become an infant if he entered politics.

He has vowed never to get involved in politics.

Dinesh Gunawardena, Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila are to launch a political propaganda campaign targeting members and families of the armed forces members.
