This is the first Independence Day celebration held since the new government was elected last August.

The celebration will commence from 8am and IGP N.K. Illangakoon has urged invitees to be seated before then as latecomers will not be allowed to enter.

Meanwhile, the Excise Department announced that all liquor shops island-wide will be closed tomorrow in lieu of Independence Day.
