Cricket TV deal in hands of interim committee

Cricket TV deal in hands of interim committee Featured

An interim committee is to be appointed to Sri Lanka Cricket, reliable sources say.

The committee is being appointed to conclude the transaction pertaining to the TV rights of the Indian cricket team’s tour to Sri Lanka, which will take place in August.

TV rights of Sri Lanka Cricket are currently held by Ten Sports with the contract expiring in 2020.

However, the contract does not include the Indian tour, which was not a part of the Sri Lanka Cricket team’s schedule when the contract was signed.

The tour is a part of an exchange tour programme, and usually, TV rights of an Indian tour to Sri Lanka can be sold at an extremely high price.

The most number of TV rights contracts signed in the recent past took place during the existence of such interim committees and former sports ministers Gamini Lokuge and Mahindananda Aluthgamage were charged of obtaining underhand money from such contracts.
