The announcement was made after the ICC Board, which held its first meeting of 2015 at the ICC Headquarters, ratified the decision in Dubai on Wednesday.

The sixth edition of the tournament is scheduled to take place from March 11to April 3, 2016. This will be the first time when India would host the World T20.

In addition, the ICC reinstated the use of a Super Over in the event of a tie in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 final.

Also, the world governing body also received an update on the World Cup and approved the dates of the ICC events through to 2019.
