Accordingly, Frontline Socialist Party (Peratugami Samajawadi Pakshaya), New Sama Samaja Party and United Socialist Party are to field 3 presidential candidates.

In response to a question raised by BBC Sandeshaya the General Secretary of New Sama Samaja Party, Dr. Vikramabahu Karunaratne has stated that he was making an effort to field United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as the common candidate and as the attempt failed his party is fielding a party candidate.

He further stated that according to the level of contribution made to strengthen the democracy in the society during the recent past, most reliable leader is Ranil Wickremesinghe.
