Mahinda didn’t listen to me, says President Featured

I urge all the members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to join hands with us in a bid to further strengthen the party, President Maithripala Sirisena says.

The observation was made while speaking at the 65th Convention of the SLFP held in Kurunegala this afternoon (04).

“The members of the SLFP must unite to strengthen the party, without eyeing to form a new one,” he added.

He also vowed that no room would be allowed for international community to interfere in the country’s domestic affairs as the Government is determined in strengthening democracy and establishing a solid human rights record. “I will not bow down amid international pressure against the country,” Sirisena said.

The President also added that the SLFP will contest the forthcoming Local Government election under party’s ‘hand’ symbol.

He went on to say that he warned the former President not to hold a Presidential election in January 2015. “But, he (the former President) did not listen to me. I wrote to the Cabinet of Ministers regarding this as well,” he said.
