Child abuse investigations make no headway

Child abuse investigations make no headway Featured

The National Child Protection Authority last year received 10,732 complaints of child abuse, but no punishment was given to the guilty after investigations, says the Ministry of Women and Child’s Affairs.

The NCPA’s police investigation unit has filed action on account of 74 complaints and the hearings are still underway.

Six others have been referred to the attorney general, while investigations are still on into 176 more.

The ministry says 6,875 of the complaints were referred to the respective police stations for investigation, and 4,875 investigation reports received.

Police will be instructed to expedite investigations into around 2,000 complaints which are yet to be investigated, it adds.
