He issued the warning at yesterday’s (17) handover of appointment letters to 42 new electoral organizers at the President’s House.
The president noted that a party that had got divided never managed to form a government.
He gave as an example how the UNP lost after Lalith Athulathmudali and Gamini Dissanayake broke away from the party.
Speaking further, he said the SLFP-led UPFA would contest the upcoming local government polls under the ‘hand’s symbol.
President Sirisena said his single-most objective was to form a SLFP government in 2020.
Commenting on the president’s warning, his predecessor Mahinda Rajapaksa has told Neth FM that the appointment of new organizers had fulfilled the opportunist needs of a certain group.
Voters who had voted for the SLFP at the last general election have been betrayed, he alleged, adding it was not a decision taken for the furtherance of the party.
