Lose MP positions, President warns

Lose MP positions, President warns Featured

President Maithripala Sirisena warns 51 SLFP MPs who allegedly violate discipline and try to divide the party that they stand to lose their electoral organizer as well as parliamentary positions.

He issued the warning at yesterday’s (17) handover of appointment letters to 42 new electoral organizers at the President’s House.

The president noted that a party that had got divided never managed to form a government.

He gave as an example how the UNP lost after Lalith Athulathmudali and Gamini Dissanayake broke away from the party.

Speaking further, he said the SLFP-led UPFA would contest the upcoming local government polls under the ‘hand’s symbol.

President Sirisena said his single-most objective was to form a SLFP government in 2020.

Commenting on the president’s warning, his predecessor Mahinda Rajapaksa has told Neth FM that the appointment of new organizers had fulfilled the opportunist needs of a certain group.

Voters who had voted for the SLFP at the last general election have been betrayed, he alleged, adding it was not a decision taken for the furtherance of the party.
