TUs firmly against Inland Revenue chief

TUs firmly against Inland Revenue chief Featured

Accusing chief of the Department of Inland Revenue Kalyani Dassanayake of having insulted the department, its trade unions have decided to complain to the president, prime minister, finance minister, finance secretary and other relevant authorities.

The decision by the joint unions committee of the department today (01) follows revelations of a secret mission to get Dassanayake appointed to the director board of Lalith Kotelawala’s F&G (Pvt.) Ltd.

This is alleged to be the biggest act of deception after the VAT fraud.

The joint unions committee of the department comprises unions of the commissioners, staff officers, executive officers as well as the inland revenue services union and the inland revenue employees union.

The revelation of the attempt to get Dassanayake appointed to F&G came to light at the June 27 hearing by the Supreme Court of a motion filed by F&G director Upali Rajapakse.

Since one of member of the three-member bench was on leave on that day, the hearing was put off for today, but once again postponed until September 06.

A TU leader said F&G director appointees were the depositors of the company, and most of them had concealed their income and deposited their money at unregistered financial companies like the F&G.

Therefore, it should be looked into whether Dassanayake too, had deposited money in the company, and also her getting such an appointment is a serious violation of professional ethics, he noted.

However, Dassanayake has told the media that she was not aware of being named to the director board of F&G.

Rajapakse has declined to comment, saying the matter was before courts.

He has filed the motion seeking the removal of all directors, excepting him, and the appointment of new directors, whom he proposes to be Kalyani Dassanayake, retired SC judge Nimal Dissanayake and another person.
