Action filed against Uduwe Thera

Meanwhile, the AG yesterday filed a case in the Colombo high court yesterday against Uduwe Dhammaloka Thera for keeping a baby elephant without a license and on two other counts.

The Thera has claimed the baby jumbo, worth nearly Rs. six million, had been abandoned by someone at Siri Elen Methiniyarama Temple.

After it transpired that he had kept the baby elephant and paid the mahouts, the CID arrested him on 11 February.

Later, he was released on bail.
